The Instant Relieve & Relax Method
The Instant Relieve & Relax Method
Ever wonder what will be the easiest method to feel relaxed? Are you always in a hurry that you forget to breathe, or are you a shallow breather?
Your guess is correct. The easiest yet is most overlook method to achieve instant relaxation is none other than our birthright: Breathing.
Next time, when you are tense, or your mind becomes cluttered with many thoughts that start to cause you to feel stress up, out-of-breath or fall back to your habitual shallow breathing (which you may not have noticed until now).
Try this simple method to calm your mind down:
- Breath in slowly using your nose
- Short hold and pause for 1 second or more
- Breath out even slower and deeper, using your mouth (if you make a slight whirl sound, is okay)
- Repeat 1-3 again.
Begin with your usual breathing rhythm (chesty breathing), and move on to become diaphragmatic breathing, if possible.
Either way, just note that the breathe out should be longer than the breathe in. An easy to remember ratio is 7/11 (yes, the convenient shop). The breathe in could be 7 counts, while the breathe out is 11 counts. Do it for a few minutes to observe the calming effect.
You may wonder, why can’t I use nose to breahe out? The reason behind is quite simple. By using mouth, we will be able to move more air out from our lung, in preparation for a more deeper breathe in thru our nose. In other words, our objective is to bring in more oxygen and have it circulate to the needed place in our body, especially our brain.
T. Harv Eker’s once mentioned to his class the meaning of Nirvana, and how to achieve it. It is indeed very simple and I find it very meaningful also. To get into Nirvana, the essence is to get into focused breathing. Breathe out is to Relax, whereas breathe in is to Energise. No wonder this yin-yang that is everlasting and has been automatic since we were born till our last breath.
And in Chinese, the breathing (呼吸) is made up of 2 parts. Breathe out 呼 then breathe in 吸. Thus, the importance of exhale is to prepare for the good deep inhale.
Next time, when you feel nervous, why don’t you try to enhance the usual deep breath routine to a deluxe version, ie, take a deep breathe in via nose, combine with slow breath out via mouth? You will see the instant calming and relaxing effect.
